My undergraduate degrees are in secondary math education and computer science, and my graduate degree is in computer science education. I began my education career in 1987 as a high school math and computer teacher in Winfield-Mt. Union. This was very early in the days of personal computers and networked computers in high schools. Due to the small size of the school, I took on many tech support roles there. I took a position as a junior high and high school math and computer teacher at Waverly-Shell Rock in 1990. I continued to provide computer support for WSR. While the networking responsibility has been taken over by professional staff, I continue to provide professional development support for staff, maintain the school information system, and assist in website maintenance. I have been teaching math, programming, and computer applications about half time for about the last 12 years. This has given me the opportunity to foster technology skills in my students while keeping the focus on the subject matter. I have enjoyed helping teachers implement strategies that help them be more dynamic and efficient by finding technology that fits their needs.

I started my life as an adult learner at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. After that, I did some more learning at Drake University where I received my Orff Level 1 and 2 certification. My favorite learning has been at Viterbo University when I got my masters degree. At that time I learned that what schools do for children and communities is a mission. That drive empowered my teaching and I implemented new strategies into my own classroom. I began learning with the folks at Waverly-Shell Rock in 2006 as a K-4 general music specialist. We had a lot of fun together as learners and I was able to infuse a love of music in many students. The fall of 2016, I started my journey as an instructional coach and the learning has just continued. As a coach, I am able to work with teachers to create engaging learning environments by infusing the arts, looking at resiliency and grit, as well as enabling folks with the study of David Keirsey's Temperaments to help build solid relationships with students, parents and colleagues so the learning can be even more exciting and effective.
