High School Creative Writing - Mrs. Megan Epley

Connected Opportunity - “My Creative Writing class has used Google Hangout to virtually meet our second grade pen pals. We also just used Google Hangout to interview a New York Times Best-Selling author from Kansas City. Additionally, we have created a blog that my students are posting their writing to and are receiving feedback from local voices and students in Virginia.”  ~Mrs. Epley
Teacher Reflection - “These experiences have been beneficial to my students in several ways. We have been able to discuss audience and etiquette, something important for this generation to know. Beyond that, it has given my students the opportunity to hear from voices that they would not connect with otherwise and be able to receive feedback on their writing and the writing process in general from authentic audiences. The authentic audience is an important component because it makes writing and student work more real and important. Students have a greater desire to produce strong products when they have a wider audience.”  ~Mrs. Epley
Student Reflection - “The author was very kind and answered every question with passion. Having that one on one conversation was a great way to expand how we can get feedback. She gave us great advice on if we wanted to take our writing to that next level as students. If we have more opportunities like this (by skyping, having a google hangout or even chatting with people outside the walls of WSR) it will give us different perspectives and chances to collaborate.”
